No.1 – Do only what you LOVE to do
Never do anything if you are just forced to do it, or if you just feel like you have no choice. Remember – before you start doing anything – you always have a choice – TO DO or NOT TO DO IT. If you do anything that you don’t love doing – like getting a monotonous job, starting a crappy business, or marrying some guy you don’t really love – you will end up regretting that decision sooner or later and you will just fail and feel unhappy.
No. 2 – Stay away from people who bring you down
Stay away from people who pretend to be your friend just for the sake of having someone to boost their ego when they feel bad about themselves or when they just need someone to bring down so they can think highly of themselves. There are tons of bullies in disguise and if you feel like your supposed ‘friend’ is one of them – stay away! Try to surround yourself with people who love you – those who would encourage you to do your best and help and support you to reach your full potential.
No. 3 – Stop worrying about things you can’t do anything about
Disregard your feelings of anxiousness about things you have no control over. Don’t worry about the traffic – instead, leave early for work so you can avoid it. Don’t worry about the weather, just always be ready with a trusty folded umbrella in your purse. Don’t worry about what your boss or what your coworkers think about you, just do your job well. Whatever it is that you are worried about – or you think you will be worried about, try to prepare for it. Face it and prepare for whatever may be the cause of your worries.
No. 4 – Eat and sleep adequately – more, if you have time to spare
Sleeping and eating are amongst our body’s basic needs. Technically, most of us work so hard so our family (and us, too) will have good food to eat and a relaxing house (and a comfy bed) to come home to. So let’s go back to the basics and try to provide ourselves with our basic needs – let’s spend time sleeping and eating. Eat, Sleep, and Be Merry!
No. 5 – Make time for your family and friends
I’ve heard so many people saying that they work so hard because they want to provide the best for their family. Funny thing is, they don’t spend a lot of quality time with their family and friends because of their work. They work so hard and they spend so much time at the office or wherever their business calls – to the point that they are no longer able to provide what their family sorely needs – TIME spent with them. Worse, busy bees seem to be hating the fact that they work A LOT. Yet, they do it, and in the end, they regret the time they have wasted. I’m sure a lot of people on their deathbeds wished they could have spent more time with their family and friends – and no one ever wished she/he could have spent more time at the office, doing more work.
No. 6 – Get out, See the World, and Have Fun!
It is not a sin to go out and see the world, travel, and have fun every once in a while. You don’t have to go far for your R& R – but if you can, why not? Taking a break from it all will make you forget your everyday stressors. After a short out-of-town trip, you will surely feel a bit more refreshed and inspired.
No. 7 – Practice Smiling
Practice makes perfect. If you try to smile a lot, smiling will become a habit of yours sooner or later. The simple routine of smiling in the morning when you wake up, when you eat your yummy breakfast, and just before you hit the road will help brighten up your day. Besides, the more you practice doing it, the more you will get used to it. Smiling will not only give you a sense of positivity, it will also relax your facial muscles and it can help make you look younger.
No. 8 – Read and Watch happy stuff
Feed your mind and your heart with happy images, emotions, and ideas. Go do a marathon of comedy or feel-good movies or TV shows. You can also read inspirational books or just about anything that will make you happy – depending on your hobbies and interests.
No. 9 – Ignore what others think about you
Again, you really have no control over what other people will think or feel about you. Don’t try to be a people-pleaser. Be who you want to be and do what you want to do for as long as you don’t end up hurting people around you (Get the idea?). Stop thinking about the criticisms you get – especially from people who don’t really care about you. What they think doesn’t really matter. What matters is what you feel and what you think about yourself.
No. 10 – Stop counting your achievements and just be thankful for the blessings you get
Counting your achievements and striving for perfection can be very stressful – especially if you punish yourself and feel guilty or pessimistic whenever you fail. At the end of every day, it’s better if you just start thinking about the good and happy things that came your way – even the smallest blessings. Realize that being alive and having one more day to spend time with your loved ones is already a big blessing.
