Valuable Things That Should Not (but usually) Go Down the Drain Plus the Need for Plumbing Services
What’s your most prized possession which fell down the drain? I’m asking this because my wedding ring ALMOST did end up down the drain yesterday. I was washing the dishes and something got stuck on it so I had to remove it. I was rinsing my beloved ring when it slipped and then it rolled…. rolled… and fell down the drain – Almost
. Lucky me, my ring got stuck again – on another “something”. LOL.
Drain accidents happen – and for most of us moms who work in the kitchen a lot, it’s a dilemma we have to deal with a lot. The only solution here is to get a sink drain plate or cover with smaller holes – which can be annoying sometimes (because more ‘stuff’ would get stuck on it and that ‘stuff’ would be more difficult to remove).
Anyway, if you’re as stubborn as me (who sticks with drains with bigger holes as I’m a bit impatient with slowly-draining water and “stuck-y” drains), you have to be very careful when you’re using your sinks o because if not, you’ll probably end up losing these valuable things that usually (but accidentally) go down the sink drain…
Rings – When I was still in college, I worked as an OJT for a small media company and one of our bosses (who’s also the company owner’s son) had a very expensive wedding ring. I knew it was expensive because his driver kept on telling everyone how much the ring was after our boss lost it. It was worth more than a thousand dollars – and his new wife was furious because it went down the drain when he removed it as he was brushing his teeth (or so he claimed. Lol).
Pins – I don’t know if pins are a big hit these days but back in my younger days – at least for my mom – it was. She’d wear all sorts of pins and she had this little one with a pearl on the center and some dangling gold tone chains. I don’t really know what actually happened with it because I was too young to remember all the details. All I know is that she was apologetically telling my dad that his birthday gift for her went down the drain.
Bracelets and Watches – These would only go down your drain IF you remove the drain plate/cover so better not make that mistake – which my Aunt did before. I think I was in first grade when we visited them in the province. We slept there for a few days (it was Christmas break I think). My aunt was cleaning the drain cover when the lock of her bracelet got caught on the faucet. Instead of turning the faucet off and properly removing her bracelet, she ridiculously pulled it off with force so the lock broken and the bracelet went straight down the drain. How unlucky, noh?
Keys – I can’t remember the title of the movie but it was a horror-thriller film and there was this girl who was being chased by a psycho killer and she was supposed to get the car key from a kitchen cabinet. She was so much in panic that she “accidentally” dropped the key and it went down the drain – again. And so, she got killed on that sink too. It was one horrific drain accident. Good thing that only happened in a film.
Speaking of movies, do you remember that Final Destination film where a guy (who has just won the lottery) gets his hand (the watch on his hand) stuck in a drain when his apartment was on fire? He almost died because he was trying to fish out the ring which also went down the drain (He died still – after escaping the apartment through the fire escape – the fire escape ladder fell down on his face). Anyway, I’m just saying this to remind everyone NOT to handle drain accident problems alone – especially if you’re not an expert. When your ring, earring, bracelet, etc – goes down the drain – and somehow you see that it’s stuck in the bottom of your sink pipe and you can still get it, I suggest you get plumbing services and not go DIY because aside from the (very little) possibility that your hand would get stuck in it, there’s also the risk that your pipes would get damaged when you start poking at it.
This is part of a Bucks2Blog project but all stories and opinions presented above are true – and mine.
